Advancing AI in National Health Services: Our Vision for Progress

An update from HealthAI CEO, Dr Ricardo Baptista Leite

This week, I'm excited to represent HealthAI- The Global Agency for Responsible AI in Health at the Mobile World Congress (MWC), where I'll speak on a panel about integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into National Health Services (SNS).

It's an exciting opportunity. First, it's a chance to meet with fellow health professionals to talk about the future of health. It's also a chance to remind the world of the incredible opportunity responsible AI holds in health - but only if we design it that way from the start.

There's a lot of worry about AI in health. As CEO, I talk to healthcare professionals, government leaders, and citizens. That's always an overriding theme. Fear. But at the end of the day, it's fear of the unknown. If people are fearful, this can lead to a brick wall where people don't adopt the technology in the long run.

That's where HealthAI can work with governments, regulators, and policymakers to ensure AI in health is designed and deployed responsibly. We're here to help ensure capacity exists in each country so that each country, with their sovereign independence, can validate AI tools. Equity and access are at the heart of our mission.

Our strategy is straightforward. We believe in the power of partnership to navigate the complexities of AI integration. Governments play a crucial role. We aim to assist governments in enhancing their regulatory frameworks, ensuring that AI solutions are safe, effective, and aligned with each country's healthcare goals.

Collaboration is key. We're committed to sharing our knowledge and resources with government partners, helping to build the technical and regulatory capacities needed for successful AI integration. This means advising on policy and providing practical tools and guidance to implement AI solutions responsibly. Working at a global level, we are committed to doing our part to help close the digital divide and ensure that the benefits of AI technologies are accessible to all.

I'll discuss how HealthAI plans to make this happen at the Mobile World Congress. We are building relationships with governments, focusing on the mutual goal of improving health outcomes through responsible AI.

Our message is simple: By working together, we can harness the transformative potential of AI to the national health services and, through those, the lives of the people who benefit from it. I look forward to sharing our vision and strategy at the congress and inviting more partners to join us in this critical work.
